nocturnal emissions

Nocturnal emmisions……mother despite her harsh attitude towards the Knight of Columbanus rarely used her derringer …Father having reached the grand mass of close to 22stone had reduced the family home to a noturne of nightmares …we raced to bed each night some in nighties ,others in boy nighties ..the hope was we might sleep through the dusk to dawn …father having consumed gallons of semolina would retire to bed and transmit a raucous noise which our neighbour Mrs Davie described to the duty Sargent of Rathmines police station as ” how she imagined pigs might be slaughtered in the abattoir up off francis street in the Liberties “(her words not mine ) and so at about 3:45 am several children would stand with weapons outside the parental boudoir reading ourselves to dispatch this gurgling leviathan we called father …mother who was already attending the supreme court on money laundering and gun running could not risk the attention ..she  always debonair to a fault would emerge from the darkened cavern with her loaded pistol …calmly in a malevolent voice suggest we all takevour cudgels to bed that if anyone was going to murdur father it would have to be on holiday . father an early riser would be oblivious and greeted the sunrise thanking his God for blessing him with such a doting family ..
