My Rubbish life

Well there was a time when my life was rubbish …literally ….working in a recycling  depot …..there will be an entire book on Rag and Bone  …but not sure where to start ….it was a time of huge surreality ..we once had a marketing strategy  which encouraged schools and children  to collect yellow pages …weeks went by  mounds of yellow directories accumulated .. even photos in the local papers  …we at the coal face  noticed that yellow paper was not  considered suitable for reprocessing in the uk …despite  this the tonnes grew  until  we finally  put a stop to it ……we with huge amounts of delirious glee  knew all the  directories had to be landfilled …our marketing person much like david brent …turned it into a triumph  ….lunches spent killing rats with spades. I got  27 one day …and the pride at being able to separate 13 differents products by hand into bags ….and all for the princely sum of £ 20 a day .. trying to do wheel spins with forklifts…trying to explain to one customer.that used tampons do not go into paper recycling the fun outweighed the absurdity . The eden project giving us their used nappies to process.. so that they could reach their zero landfill targets , in a time when recycling was a personality disorder  rather than saving the planet
